Risk analysis regarding private sailing school with sailing on the Sound: Risk analysis basis: Risk analysis handbook on msb.se (Agency for Civil Protection and Emergency Preparedness) and the Swedish Consumer Agency's guidance for offering safe services to consumers. Available risk data has been used. Sailing on open water is associated with certain risks, especially physical injuries such as frostbite, wounds, injuries in connection with fast, uncontrolled maneuvers, falls and, in the worst case, drowning. Keeping these risks at a very low level is part of the sailing school's responsibility. The Swedish Lifesaving Society reports drowning figures for Sweden. In the report from 2023, 73 people died, of which 17 in connection with the use of a boat. Just as in previous years, men > 60 years of age are clearly overrepresented. The involvement of alcohol and the lack of a life jacket are also common. Drowning incidents in connection with recreational sailing are extremely rare. Measures to keep risks at the sailing school at a very low level:
1. Everyone on board wears a life jacket.
2. Sailing under the auspices of the sailing school is only carried out when the air and water temperature is above 10 degrees Celsius.
3. Alcohol and other drugs are not allowed on board.
4. The instructor decides whether the boat can leave port and when the boat needs to enter port.
5. The instructor decides which sails can be set for safe sailing.
6. The instructor can reject students who do not have the necessary equipment for the weather.
7. The instructor's instructions should be respected by the students during sailing.
8. It is possible to call for help via mobile and VHF.
9. First aid equipment is available on board.
10. The instructor has CPR skills.
